Piperine improves the absorption of natural compounds from the intestine into the blood and reduces the so-called "first pass effect" in the liver. This leads to a higher bioavailability of trans-resveratrol.

In one study, the bioavailability of resveratrol which had been enriched with piperine was researched in animals, and 1,544% higher blood levels of resveratrol were found.

The high degree of purity combined with the improved bioavailability is unique. Piperine also positively influences the so-called "first pass effect".

The buccal dosage form, in other words the absorption through the oral mucosa is not practical because resveratrol is very poorly soluble in water. For 3 mg resveratrol approximately 100 ml of liquid is needed. Thus 500 mg would require 15 liters of liquid. Therefore Biotikon uses resveratrol in combination with Piperine.
